Can I Find My Dream Job?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

dream_jobThe economy is not what it used to be, that is for sure. People are losing jobs left and right, some yesterday, some today, and a few more tomorrow. Chances are that you know at least 30 people right off the top of your head that have lost their jobs due to the crisis we are facing. This crisis has left many people asking themselves “Can I find my dream job?” For some, the layoffs have been good and bad in several different ways. The layoffs have been bad in the sense that people do not have any means of income except for unemployment. They have been good in the sense that a lot of this has lead people to realize that they would rather be doing something else anyways.

If you are one of the many people out there that have been left asking yourself “Can I find my dream job?”, then the answer is yes, you can. The first way to go about finding your dream job is to figure out what you like and do not like doing. What are your interests? What are some of the things in life that you have found yourself passionately drawn to? It might be computers and the home life. This would make for a wonderful stay-at-home career. It may be make-up and beauty, and that would make for a great career in cosmetology. Do you like to draw and design? You could be a web designer, painter, or visual arts designer. If you constantly find yourself at the gym, then you may want to consider a career as a personal trainer.

Another way to find your dream job is to take an online career test. They are practically all over the web, and they are free to take. All you have to do is fill out some basic information, and you are taken to a quiz that asks you some personality questions. Some are a bit difficult and some are simple questions like “Would you rather work with people or alone?” At the end of the test, it will usually tell you or personality type and the types of jobs that match your interests. This can be a terrific tool in discovering what you would be good at.

Consider the things you have done in the past, what are you good at? What are your skills? Are you a good listener? Or would you rather give orders? You will need to figure out what type of setting is best for you. Some folks prefer to be outside traveling, while others feel much more comfortable in a basic office setting. You will also need to figure out whether or not you like working with a crowd of people, few people, or alone. If you have a job that you enjoy, but hate the people, then that is not a dream job.

It will definitely take some brain storming when asking yourself the question, “Can I find my dream job?” but it can be done. There is no need to work at a job that you hate. Many folks would rather just sit at home and be broke than have to go to a job that they cannot stand every day. When it comes to finding your dream job, money should not matter, so do not put too much emphasis on that or you will wind up missing something that could make you very happy in the end. It is better to work at a job that has lower pay and stick with it, than to work at a job with higher pay and only stay for a little while. Know what you want out of life, and your dream job will come to you.
