How Do I Find My Dream Job?
With the many layoff and cutbacks that have been happening, a lot of people are asking the question, “How do I find my dream job?” It is a sad truth, but the economy is still struggling more than ever before, and it is not going to get any better. Skills that people have had their whole lives have been taken away by loss of jobs. Several careers are being shipped overseas every day. Businesses that have always been successful are now going under. There is hope out there to find a job that you will love, and a job that is not going to go under any time soon.
Here are some useful tips on how to find your dream job:
What Is My Dream Job? Tip #1
First thing’s first, forget about all of the jobs that are getting shipped overseas. If it is temporary work you are wanting, such as that in a plant or manufacturing setting – forget about it. You want to still be employed in years to come, right? Unless you are applying to be a manager in one of these facilities or something of real substance, then back off of the manufacturing industry. They have proven to have laid off more than any other job industry in America this year. Think of something that has job security.
How Do I Find My Dream Job? Tip #2
Once you have came up with a few ideas, figure out which ones make use of the skills that you are best at doing. Are you a good nurturer? Do you like to write? Take photos? If you are really confident, you could consider going into business for yourself. Write down your strengths and weaknesses on a piece of paper and go from there.
What Is My Dream Job? Tip #3
Make use of online job searches. If you cannot seem to figure out what you are interested in, take a look and see what is out there. You will be able to get a good idea of what the best job markets are, and what is needed the most in this tough economy. Which businesses are still thriving? Which of those do you take a strong interest in? These are also great websites in the fact that they provide you with job descriptions so that you can know more about what each career consists of.
How Do I Find My Dream Job? Tip #4
Take an online job skills assessment test. They are available everywhere online. All you have to do is type in “career test” or “career quiz” in your search bar, and dozens of results will pop up. These will help you to figure out what your best job strengths are. They generally ask you questions by providing you with situations, and want you to determine what you would do, or how you would handle a given scenario. At the end, the results will match you up with a particular personality type, and also with a particular job category or number of jobs that might meet your needs. You can even choose to take more than one career quiz if you prefer, just to make sure. You will be surprised at what the results will be. They really do provide a lot of great insight.
What Is My Dream Job? Tip #5
Consider whether or not you like working indoors or outdoors. This will definitely narrow it down quite a bit, especially if you are confused about which career choice is right for you. Indoor careers can range from office jobs to teaching jobs, while outdoor jobs can range from construction work to park rangers. It just depends on where your passions lie.
How Do I Find My Dream Job? Tip #6
Sit down and really think about who you are. What is it about life that you love so much? Try to connect that to a career path. What do you want out of life? None of us want to have to actually “work”, but to life a good life, we need to. If we find the right job, it will not feel like work. What are your hobbies? What do you find yourself doing in your free time? It might be shopping, skiing, dancing, writing, talking, drawing, painting, working out, hunting, etc. You can find a way to incorporate your favorite hobbies into something that you could do for the rest of your life. For example, if you love to hunt, then you could maybe try getting a job at a store that sells hunting supplies. If you love to shop, then you could try to apply for a job at the mall!
Although you might be stuck in a dead end job right now, keep in mind that it does not have to go on. Come up with some ideas, and make your decision. These tips will help you to find your way. Everyone was destined to do something. All it takes is a little quiet time and some brainstorming to figure out what it is. It may not come to you overnight, but do not give up. If one way of brainstorming and researching does not work, then you have several other ways to try. You are going to change your mind a million times most likely before you finally decide what you you want to do. This is perfectly normal. But when the idea finally comes to you, you will know that it is real. You will know that you have finally discovered what your dream job is. The only thing left for you to do will be to take action and go for it!
